DevelopDent · Legazpi Village, Makati CBD
Children's dental care at DevelopDent covers preventive, restorative, and early-intervention treatment — delivered by the same treating dentist who sees adult patients, in an unhurried clinic setting that gives children time to settle before treatment begins.
An unhurried first visit
The first appointment is for the child to become comfortable, not to complete a checklist. Treatment sequence and pacing are adapted to the child's response — not to an appointment schedule. Parents are kept informed throughout.
Conservative by default
Primary teeth have a finite lifespan. Treatment decisions weigh the clinical need against the remaining time the tooth has in the mouth. Intervention is recommended when justified — not as a routine response to any sign of decay.
One dentist, consistent care
There are no associates at DevelopDent. The treating dentist who examines your child is the one who performs any treatment — and the same dentist they will see at the next visit. Familiarity reduces anxiety over time.
Regular check-ups, fluoride application, and dental sealants are the most reliable way to keep intervention minimal as your child grows. DevelopDent's preventive approach is available for children and adults — the same evidence-based protocols, adjusted for age and dentition stage.
What age should a child have their first dental visit?
The first visit is generally recommended around age one, or within six months of the first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. Early visits establish a baseline, identify any developmental concerns, and allow the child to become familiar with the clinic environment before any treatment is ever needed.
Do primary (baby) teeth really need to be treated?
Primary teeth are not simply placeholders. They maintain space for permanent teeth, support speech development, and allow normal chewing function. Untreated decay in a primary tooth can spread rapidly, cause pain, and affect the developing permanent tooth underneath. That said, not every finding requires immediate intervention — the treating dentist will weigh the clinical need against the tooth's remaining lifespan before recommending treatment.
How do you manage anxious or uncooperative children?
Appointments are paced to the child's comfort. The first visit is typically an examination only — no treatment — so the child can become familiar with the clinic, the chair, and the dentist before anything clinical begins. Treatment is explained in age-appropriate terms before each step. DevelopDent does not offer sedation; if a case requires it, an appropriate referral will be made.
My child was told they need a crown or extraction elsewhere. Should I get a second opinion?
Yes — particularly for crowns, pulp therapy, or early extraction of primary teeth, a second clinical view is reasonable and sometimes valuable. DevelopDent offers structured second opinion consultations for patients who want an independent assessment before committing to treatment. Records from the original clinic are reviewed and an honest evaluation is provided without pressure to proceed at DevelopDent.
What radiographs are taken for children?
DevelopDent uses targeted intraoral radiography — periapical x-rays of specific teeth or areas of concern, taken only when clinically indicated. The clinic does not have panoramic or OPG equipment. For children, radiographs are only recommended when the clinical examination suggests a specific need, and are never taken as a routine procedure at every visit.
How often should a child come in for a check-up?
For most children, every six months is appropriate. The treating dentist may recommend more or less frequent visits depending on decay risk, developmental stage, or active orthodontic monitoring. The recall interval is discussed and agreed at the end of each check-up appointment.
