Overview

Two materials, one careful planning process

Veneers cover the visible face of a tooth to change colour, refine surface texture, repair a chip, close a small gap, or improve proportion. DevelopDent offers two material families — porcelain (laboratory-fabricated) and composite (placed and shaped directly in the chair) — chosen per case based on the goal, the condition of the underlying tooth, and the bite.

Veneers belong to cosmetic dentistry at DevelopDent. They are not a default solution — for some cases, whitening, targeted composite, or orthodontic correction is the better answer. The first appointment is for understanding which.

If you have already received a veneer plan from another clinic and want an independent clinical assessment, DevelopDent offers structured second opinion consultations — particularly useful when multiple teeth or substantial enamel reduction is on the table.

Who They Suit

Who is a good candidate for veneers?

Veneer treatment is most successful when the underlying teeth are healthy, the bite is stable, and the cosmetic concern is well-defined. Common reasons patients come for veneers include:

Discoloured teeth that don't respond to whitening
Chipped, worn, or surface-damaged front teeth
Small to moderate gaps between front teeth
Uneven shape, size, or proportion
Existing composite or veneer work in need of replacement
Patients who want refinement, not transformation
When veneers are not the right choice Active gum disease, untreated decay, heavy bruxism without a protective plan, or unstable bite all need to be addressed first. For severe alignment issues, clear aligners or braces is often the better starting point — veneers on misaligned teeth can hide the structural problem temporarily without solving it.

International patients planning veneer treatment around a trip to Manila should account for the time required between the preparation visit and the bonding visit (porcelain veneers require laboratory time between appointments) — typical timelines are summarised on the international patients page.

Porcelain vs Composite

How the two veneer materials compare

Neither material is universally better. The right choice depends on the goal, the budget, the time commitment, and the long-term plan.

Porcelain veneers — laboratory-fabricated
Custom-designed and milled at a dental laboratory from your 3D scan. More durable, more stain-resistant, and longer-lasting — typically a decade or more with care. Requires two appointments (preparation + bonding) and minimal but irreversible enamel reduction. Best for full-front aesthetic plans, larger changes, or when long-term durability matters most.
Composite veneers — placed in the chair
Layered and sculpted directly by the treating dentist in a single visit. More conservative — often with little to no enamel reduction — and easier to repair or replace. Typically lasts 5 to 7 years before refresh, and more prone to staining than porcelain. Best for single-tooth corrections, small reshaping, or patients who want a less-invasive entry point into veneer treatment.
Mixed approaches
Some cases call for composite on one or two teeth alongside porcelain on others, or composite as a transitional step before committing to porcelain. The treating dentist will tell you when a hybrid plan makes more sense than a single-material approach.
The Process

How a veneer case is planned and placed

Every veneer case follows a structured workflow — no irreversible step is taken before the design is reviewed and agreed.

1

Consultation and Records

Clinical examination, photographs, bite assessment, and a 3D intraoral scan. The treating dentist talks through what you want to change and what is realistic to change in your specific case.

2

Design Review

Using the scan and reference photographs, the treating dentist proposes a design — proportion, shape, shade, surface texture. You see the proposal and approve it before any tooth structure is touched.

3

Preparation

For porcelain, a conservative amount of enamel is removed to make room for the veneer thickness — typically less than a millimetre. For composite, often little or no preparation is required. The amount is recorded and minimised.

4

Try-in and Bite Check

For porcelain veneers, a try-in stage lets you see the result before final bonding — colour, shape, and bite all checked. For composite, the placement is iterative — sculpted, checked against the bite, refined until right.

5

Bonding and Polish

Final bonding to the prepared tooth surface, followed by careful polish. The bite is rechecked one last time before you leave.

6

Maintenance Plan

A maintenance schedule — recall intervals, what to avoid, and any night-guard recommendation if grinding is part of the picture. Veneers behave well when the surrounding gum and bite are well-maintained.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about veneers

How much tooth structure is removed for veneers?
For porcelain veneers, typically less than a millimetre from the front surface of the tooth — a thin shell of enamel is reshaped to accept the veneer. For composite veneers, often little or no reduction is needed. The amount is minimised, recorded, and discussed before any preparation begins.
Are veneers reversible?
Composite veneers are largely reversible — they can usually be removed or replaced without significantly modifying the underlying tooth. Porcelain veneers are not — the enamel that was reduced does not grow back. Once you commit to porcelain, the tooth will need a veneer (or a similar restoration) from that point on. The treating dentist will be clear about this before any preparation.
Will the veneers look natural?
Yes — both porcelain and composite can be shaded and shaped to integrate with adjacent natural teeth. Porcelain has a slight edge for translucency and long-term colour stability. DevelopDent does not aim for uniform, oversized, or unnaturally bright results — the plan is built around your face and your existing proportions.
How long do veneers last?
Porcelain veneers typically last 10 to 15 years with care. Composite veneers typically last 5 to 7 years before refresh or replacement. Longevity depends on bite habits (clenching and grinding wear veneers faster), oral hygiene, and avoiding biting hard objects with the front teeth.
Can I get a second opinion on a veneer plan I received elsewhere?
Yes — and many patients do, particularly when a multi-tooth plan or significant enamel reduction is proposed. DevelopDent offers structured second opinion consultations where the treating dentist reviews the existing plan, discusses alternatives, and gives an honest assessment — with no obligation to switch providers.
Will whitening change my veneer colour?
No — bleaching agents do not change the shade of veneers, only natural tooth structure. If you plan to whiten your teeth, the whitening is usually done first so the veneer shade can be matched to the final whitened result.
Is veneer treatment painful?
Veneer preparation is performed under local anaesthesia when reduction is involved. Most patients describe the appointments as comfortable. Some short-term sensitivity to temperature is normal in the days after preparation and usually resolves within a week.
Fees

Veneer fees

Composite veneers at DevelopDent are priced ₱5,000–7,000 per tooth. The final price depends on whether the tooth has existing decay or restoration that needs to be removed before veneering — ₱5,000 for sound teeth, ₱7,000 when restorative work is involved.

Porcelain (Emax) veneers are priced from ₱20,000 per tooth, lab-fabricated and individually shade-matched over two visits. Final fees are confirmed after examination and design review, before any preparation begins.

Cost

How veneer fees are determined

Veneers at DevelopDent are priced per tooth, with the material chosen for the case. Composite veneers are ₱5,000 to ₱7,000 per tooth, with the lower figure for sound teeth and the higher figure when existing decay or restoration must be addressed before the veneer is placed. Porcelain veneers are from ₱20,000 per tooth, reflecting laboratory fabrication and individual shade matching.

Porcelain veneers are designed in collaboration with our laboratory, with shade and shape decisions made at the planning stage and confirmed before final bonding. Composite veneers are sculpted directly on the tooth in a single visit, with shade matching done chair-side.

The applicable fee per tooth, and the total for your case, are confirmed at examination and laid out in a written plan before any preparation begins.
