Dental Check-up · Makati
A structured clinical examination of teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissue — conducted by the treating dentist, with findings reviewed on screen together. Not a quick scan before the cleaning begins, but a thorough assessment that forms the foundation of any treatment planning at DevelopDent.

A dental check-up at DevelopDent is a clinical examination — not a preamble to the cleaning. The treating dentist examines each tooth surface for decay, fractures, and wear; assesses the gum tissue for signs of inflammation or recession; evaluates the bite for wear patterns, occlusal stress, and joint involvement; and inspects the soft tissue of the mouth — lips, cheeks, tongue, palate — for any changes that warrant attention.
Where the clinical examination identifies a finding that requires imaging to assess properly, a targeted intraoral x-ray is taken and reviewed on screen together. Where 3D scanning adds meaningful diagnostic information — tooth surface mapping, arch-wide assessment, wear comparison over time — the intraoral scanner is used.
At the end of the examination, all findings are discussed clearly: what is stable, what is being monitored, and what needs attention. If treatment is recommended, the options and sequence are explained before anything is committed to.
A dental check-up is appropriate for almost any patient in almost any circumstance. Below are the most common reasons patients book.
A check-up at DevelopDent follows a consistent sequence — from intake through to treatment discussion. Nothing is rushed, and each step has a defined purpose.
Before the examination begins, the treating dentist reviews your dental and medical history — including any medications, allergies, recent symptoms, and past treatments. New patients complete a brief health form. For returning patients, the record from the previous visit is reviewed and any interim changes are noted. If you have x-rays or records from another clinic, bring them — they provide useful context.
The treating dentist examines each tooth for decay, cracks, wear, and the condition of any existing restorations. Gum tissue is assessed — probing depths, bleeding on probing, recession, and furcation involvement where relevant. The bite is evaluated for premature contacts, wear facets, and signs of clenching or grinding. Soft tissue — tongue, cheeks, lips, palate, floor of mouth — is checked for any changes. The temporomandibular joint is assessed if the patient reports clicking, limited opening, or jaw pain.
The 3D intraoral scanner captures surface geometry across the full arch — tooth contours, soft tissue shape, contact points, and wear patterns — without radiation. The scan is displayed on the chairside screen and reviewed with the patient. At subsequent visits, scans can be compared to detect changes over time. The scanner is used when it adds diagnostic value, not as a default at every appointment.
If the clinical examination identifies a finding that requires imaging — suspected interproximal decay, bone level evaluation, assessment of a symptomatic area — a periapical x-ray is taken of the specific area in question. The image is displayed on the chairside screen immediately after exposure and reviewed together. The treating dentist explains what each feature in the image represents. X-rays are not taken as a default at every check-up.
All findings are reviewed together at the end of the examination. The treating dentist explains clearly: what is currently healthy and stable, what is being monitored and why, and what requires active treatment. If treatment is needed, the options, sequence, and time involved are explained before anything is agreed to. Patients are not expected to make decisions during the appointment — a written summary of findings can be provided.
A first-visit consultation at DevelopDent is ₱1,000. The fee includes a comprehensive examination, intraoral photographs reviewed with you on a large screen, and a written treatment plan you can take with you.
Any further work recommended after the examination is itemised in the written plan before scheduling — there are no surprise add-ons during the appointment. If a periapical radiograph is clinically indicated during the examination, it is a separate item and the fee is confirmed before it is taken.
How long does a dental check-up take at DevelopDent?
A new patient examination typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the clinical complexity and how much time is needed for discussion. Returning patients with stable clinical pictures are generally seen in 30 to 45 minutes. The appointment is not rushed to fit a schedule — findings are explained properly before the consultation ends.
Is the cleaning done at the same appointment as the check-up?
The examination is the first clinical priority. Whether or not a cleaning follows in the same visit depends on the clinical findings — how much time is needed, what type of cleaning is appropriate, and whether there is active periodontal concern. For most returning patients on a maintenance schedule, the examination and a routine clean are completed together. For new patients or more complex cases, the examination comes first and cleaning is planned from there.
Will I need an x-ray at my check-up?
Only if the clinical examination finds something that requires imaging to assess accurately. DevelopDent does not take a set of x-rays at every visit by default. If a radiograph is recommended, the treating dentist will explain why before it is taken, and the image will be reviewed on screen with you immediately after.
I haven't been to the dentist in several years. Is that a problem?
Not at all. A check-up after an extended gap is exactly what it is designed for — establishing an accurate clinical baseline and identifying what needs attention, what can be monitored, and what is currently stable. The treating dentist approaches this without judgment. The focus is on understanding the current state and making a clear plan from there.
Can I bring x-rays or records from my previous dentist?
Yes — and it is encouraged, particularly for patients continuing treatment started elsewhere or seeking a second opinion. Existing radiographs (digital files or printed films) and any written treatment plans provide useful clinical context. The treating dentist will assess whether the images are current enough to be relied upon or whether updated views are needed.
How much does a dental check-up cost in Makati?
The fee for a check-up at DevelopDent depends on what the examination involves — whether radiographs are taken, how complex the findings are, and how much time the discussion requires. Pricing is provided at consultation. A check-up is not combined with a cleaning into a flat-rate bundle.
A dental check-up establishes the clinical picture. These are the services most commonly recommended or enquired about after findings have been reviewed.
