Preventive & General Dentistry

DevelopDent · Legazpi Village, Makati CBD

Foundational care that supports long-term oral health — clinical check-ups, professional cleaning, periodontal treatment where indicated, and targeted preventive measures such as fluoride and sealants. Every preventive visit at DevelopDent is conducted by the treating dentist, not a hygienist or assistant.

Preventive & General Services
01 Dental Check-up A structured clinical examination of teeth, gums, soft tissue, and bite — with targeted radiography where indicated and a clear discussion of findings at the end.
Clinical Examination Periodontal Charting Soft Tissue Assessment Bite Evaluation Targeted Intraoral X-Ray
02 Professional Cleaning Ultrasonic and hand scaling to remove calculus and plaque, followed by polishing. For patients with a healthy or lightly affected periodontium on a maintenance schedule.
Ultrasonic Scaling Hand Scaling Polishing Oral Hygiene Review
03 Deep Cleaning Scaling and root planing — non-surgical periodontal treatment for patients with early to moderate gum disease. Performed by quadrant with local anaesthesia where needed.
Scaling & Root Planing Subgingival Debridement Periodontal Reassessment
04 Stain Removal Removal of extrinsic surface staining from coffee, tea, tobacco, and dietary pigments through polishing. Addresses surface deposits — not intrinsic tooth colour.
Extrinsic Stain Removal Extrinsic Stain Assessment
05 Fluoride Treatment Professional topical fluoride varnish to strengthen enamel and reduce decay risk. Applied on clinical indication — not as a default at every visit.
Fluoride Varnish Caries Risk Assessment
06 Dental Sealants Resin coatings applied to the pits and fissures of premolars and molars to seal out bacteria. Most commonly placed on newly erupted permanent teeth, and in adults with deep fissure anatomy and elevated decay risk.

07 Preventive Stabilization Visit A pre-treatment stabilisation visit that brings the clinical baseline to a stable state before larger restorative, prosthetic, or orthodontic work begins — periodontal cleanup, hygiene reset, and any targeted preventive interventions needed first.

Dentist-led from start to finish

There are no hygienists at DevelopDent. Every examination, every cleaning, and every preventive procedure is performed by the treating dentist — the same person who reviews the findings, explains what they mean, and plans any subsequent care.

Targeted, not routine

Radiographs are taken only when the clinical examination identifies something that requires imaging to assess. Fluoride is applied when risk assessment indicates benefit. Preventive measures are chosen based on clinical need — not applied as a default at every visit regardless of circumstances.

Monitoring without pressure

Not every finding needs immediate treatment. Where a tooth is at early risk, the treating dentist documents it, discusses it plainly, and monitors it over time. Patients are never pushed toward procedures that are not yet clinically justified.

Need a complete clinical picture before starting treatment?

The Executive Dental Assessment combines a structured examination, 3D intraoral scanning, targeted radiography, and a written treatment plan in a single extended appointment. Suited to patients who are new to the clinic or returning after a long gap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions
about preventive care

How often should I come in for a check-up?

For most patients, every six months is appropriate. The treating dentist may recommend a shorter or longer interval depending on caries risk, periodontal status, or active monitoring of a specific finding. The recall interval is discussed at the end of each check-up visit.

Will a cleaning be done at the same appointment as the check-up?

For most returning patients on a maintenance schedule, yes — the examination and a routine clean are completed in the same visit. For new patients, the examination comes first so the appropriate type of cleaning can be confirmed. If deep cleaning or periodontal treatment is indicated, that is usually scheduled as a separate appointment.

What is the difference between professional cleaning and deep cleaning?

Routine prophylaxis removes calculus and plaque from above and just below the gumline in patients with healthy or lightly affected gums. Deep cleaning — scaling and root planing — addresses calculus and bacterial deposits below the gumline in patients with early to moderate periodontal disease. The appropriate type is confirmed at examination before any cleaning begins.

Will I need an x-ray at my check-up?

Only if the clinical examination identifies something that requires imaging to assess accurately. DevelopDent does not take x-rays at every visit by default. If a radiograph is recommended, the treating dentist will explain why before it is taken, and the image is reviewed on screen together immediately after.

I haven't been to the dentist in several years. Where do I start?

A check-up is the right starting point. It establishes an accurate clinical baseline — what is currently healthy, what needs monitoring, and what requires treatment. Patients returning after a long gap are seen without judgment. The Executive Dental Assessment is also well suited to this situation, combining a thorough examination with a written treatment plan.

Does DevelopDent see children for preventive care?

Yes. Check-ups, professional cleaning, fluoride application, and dental sealants are all available for children. Preventive care for children at DevelopDent follows the same structured, unhurried approach used for adult patients. See the Pediatric Dentistry page for more detail.
